研究概要

Municipal solid waste (MSW) poses a significant challenge in developing countries, due to the high portion of organic waste. The waste, usually mixed and moist, negatively impacts the treatment processes. Implementing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facilities offers a viable solution to these challenges. RDF production involves processing mixed waste materials, including organic waste, to produce a high-energy fuel that can be used in industrial applications, such as cement kilns and power plants. RDF utilization offers the potential for substantial cost savings, reduced landfill dependency, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. In the context of the local municipality-owned, the benefit also includes improved public health, social equity, and enhancing community welfare. Despite its evident economic and environmental benefits, RDF adoption remains limited in many local areas in developing. The objective of this research is to assess the feasibility of producing RDF in developing countries. This entails a comprehensive assessment of the cost-effectiveness of RDF facilities, the identification of barriers hindering widespread adoption, and the investigation of technical challenges associated with RDF utilization. Additionally, strategies to enhance RDF practices and assess the impact of policies across different countries will be determined. The anticipated outcomes of this research will provide substantial economic, environmental, and social benefits, thereby facilitating the establishment of sustainable waste management strategies and enhancing the long-term resilience and sustainability of MSW management.
