近年、外来生物の防除や鳥獣害対策など、大きなスケールでの生態系管理が必要となる場面が増えています。適切に計画されれば、このような取り組み は大規模野外操作実験とみなすことが可能です。そこからは生物の動態についての理解とともに、管理における意思決定支援につながる情報を得ること ができるでしょう。私は、生態系管理の現場にいる方々と協力しながら、生態学のモデルを介してデータと意思決定をつなぐ研究をしています。これま での研究テーマは、小笠原諸島の外来樹木アカギ、奄美大島のマングース防除、クマ類の個体群管理などです。
