ひとこと

This poster describes the seriousness of the food wastage situation in Indonesia. At the same time, the action to deal with this matter is still very few due to the lack of comprehensive monitoring and data collection at each stage of the supply chain for foodstuffs and agricultural commodities. This study aims to look at trends and patterns of FWL in Indonesia for approximately two decades by utilizing the data contained in the Indonesian Food Balance Table (FBT) and other supporting statistics. Based on these statistical data, on average, as many as 8 million tons of food are wasted each year. Cereal's food commodities contributed as much as 50% of the FWL. If the FWL amount is then multiplied by each commodity's retail price, it is estimated that Indonesia will experience financial losses of approximately 80 trillion IDR, almost a similar value to a budget allocation for one of Indonesia's social safety nets. The value of this potential loss is gradually increasing during the decades as the population and foodstuff inflation also increase every year. This study can also be a lesson for other developing countries that it is very important to monitor the agricultural supply chain to minimize possible financial loss along its supply chain.
