XU Guochang 特別研究員らがBasel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the PacificよりAward of Excellent Paperを受賞

I am deeply honored that our paper, “From Wasteland to Wonderland: Releasing Resupply Potential from Urban Minerals of Electric Vehicle Batteries and Motors in China” (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.joule.2026.102602), has received the Award of Excellent Paper (The Third Prize) from the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific. This research investigates the long-term urban-mining potential of critical materials embedded in rapidly expanding stocks of electric vehicle batteries and motors. By integrating multiple battery and motor technologies into a dynamic material flow framework, we assessed how end-of-life electric vehicles could become an important secondary source of lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese, and rare-earth elements. Our findings demonstrate that effective recycling could substantially reduce dependence on primary resources while supporting a more circular and resilient electric vehicle industry. I am delighted that this work has received such meaningful recognition.
