Theme3 - Subtheme2

Subtheme Name

Predicting and assessing of effects of drivers associated with economic activities on natural capital and ecosystem services of marine ecosystems

Research Summary

・Predicting and assessing the effects of changes in utility form and the environment in terrestrial and marine ecosystems associated with economic activities involving marine natural capital and ecosystem services.

・Assessing the effects of changes in land use in terrestrial ecosystems in particular, and the subsequent environmental changes in marine ecosystem services. Performing an analysis of the watershed scale, primarily in the case study watershed areas. Done in collaboration with Theme 2 to assess the interrelation between terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

・Developing models that project spatiotemporal variations in the evaluated natural capital and ecosystem services, and extending the model from the local watershed scale to a nationwide scale, as data capable of future prediction.

An analysis example: the relationship between changes in the forest area and changes in the seagrass bed in the Okinawa islands catchment area
