The National Institute for Environmental Studies (hereinafter “NIES”) may collect personally identifiable information from the users of this site, including names, addresses, postal codes, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, and fax numbers (hereinafter “Personal Information”). When collecting Personal Information, we will inform you of the purpose during the collection process, and provide you with the contact information of the department responsible for the collection. If we decide to share Personal Information with third parties, we will identify the party with whom we intend to share such information.

NIES will retain, use, and/or analyze Personal Information within the limits of the informed purpose.

2. Sharing Information

NIES will not share Personal Information with a third party unless we have stated our intention to do so during the collection process, except under the following three cases:

  • When the law requires us to provide the Personal Information to the third party;
  • When users agree to allow us to share their Personal Information with the third party; or
  • When we outsource the handling of the Personal Information, and then only within the limits of the informed purpose of use of such information.

3. Information Security

NIES will implement all measures necessary for the appropriate management of Personal Information, including protection from disclosure, loss, or damage. We will also take action at any time to ensure the accuracy of the information and maintain high standards of information security.

If we outsource the handling of Personal Information, we will audit and supervise the contractors to ensure that they are managing the entrusted information appropriately.
