Theme3
Theme name
Predicting and assessing the natural values of marine ecosystems from natural capital and ecosystem services
Targets and summary
Targets:To predict and assess the natural values from natural capital and ecosystem services of coastal and marine ecosystems around Japan.
Summary:Quantification and information mapping of natural capital and ecosystem services, including unused resources (such as a part of cultural services) and an assessment their values in collaboration with Theme 4. Prediction and assessment of changes in natural capital and ecosystem services, based on the analysis of direct/indirect modifying factors, such as rising sea temperatures, ocean acidification and the rise in sea level caused by economic activities and global environmental changes, leading to a planned future scenario to be developed in Theme 1.
Subtheme structure
・3-1. Coordinating future prediction data for environmental factors in marine ecosystems, and integrating predictive assessment for natural capital and ecosystem services
・3-2. Predicting and assessing of effects of drivers associated with economic activities on natural capital and ecosystem services of marine ecosystems
・3-3. Predicting and assessing of natural capital and ecosystem services of marine ecosystems based on future scenarios, while also taking climate change into consideration
・3-4. Predicting and assessing natural capital and ecosystem services that are based on intervention options put forward by marine management
