Synonym; Amoeba Ehrenberg (ref. ID; 1923) Terminology according to A. A. Schaeffer, 1926.
[ref. ID; 1923]
Large amoebae with indeterminate pseudopods directing locomotion. One nucleus, or 2 (rarely many). (ref. ID; 1923)
[ref. ID; 4739]
Re-diagnosis; Multinucleate. Commonly polypodial, with pseudopodia produced from one main stem whose diameter often is greater than that of the pseudopodia. Most cytoplasmic crystals distinct bipyramids. Cell surface coat of distinct, separate filaments radiating from plasma membrane; inner nuclear lamina organised as a loose honeycomb-like layer in species whose ultrastructure is known. (ref. ID; 4739)

Description; A common form, very changeable in the shape of the body; usually with numerous pseudopods, sharply distinguished from the body. Nucleus single, discoid, 40-50 um. Protoplasm with bipyramid crystals. One contractile vacuole. Habitat both stagnant and clear water. (ref. ID; 1923)
Measurements; Size, during reptation, 300-600 um. (ref. ID; 1923)
