Body outline shape pyriform, anterior region broader than posterior. Apical oral aperture slit-like borne on apical ridge, cytopharynx supported by distinct, double trichites. Somatic ciliation poorly described, uniform in longitudinal meridians, 3 rows of cilia form dorsal brush. In one species the somatic cilia do not cover the posterior part (as in Urotricha) but there is always a tuft of caudal cilia. Macronucleus spherical to ovoid, centrally located. Single terminal contractile vacuole. Sapropelic.
