[ref. ID; 2014]
Small, inflexible, oval, dorso-ventrally flattened body with a relatively large AZM (half body length) and long thick cirri. 2 rows of marginal cirri, overlapping posteriorly, where three or four are lengthened to resemble caudal cirri. Caudal cirri proper absent. Typical front-ventral and transverse cirrial system with the 3 most anterior frontal cirri being well-developed. 4 dorsal kineties of cilia. 2 macronuclei present accompanied by a variable number (1-6) of micronuclei. Single species genus originally isolated from peat bogs and sphagnum moss in central France. This genus is very similar to Histriculus, except in possessing a few long marginal cirri at the posterior margin. Jankowski (1979) considers it to be a subgenus of Oxytricha.
