Large irregularly shaped body covered with numerous, usually short, finger-like prolongations which terminally bear long capitate tentacles. Found attached to both animals and plants in various ways. There are several contractile vacuoles. The macronucleus is usually band-like and branched. Reproduction by multiple endogenous budding.
Most easily confused with Trichophrya and Platophrya. Sometimes covered with the suctorian ciliate Urnula.
