Summary of the 22nd Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Inventories in Asia (WGIA22)

Annual workshops have been held since 2003 (excluding 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) to support Asian countries to improve the accuracy of their GHG inventories and to facilitate the enhancement of cooperative relationships in the Asian region.

In this workshop, Mutual Learning sessions on GHG inventories were held. Also, various issues related to the latest inventories submitted by participating countries in their Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs), and data and methodology of the agriculture sector were discussed. Group discussions on how to use the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) GHG Inventory Reporting Tool were held. The Technical Expert Review (TER) of BTRs was also discussed. Through these discussions, the workshop contributed to enhancing capacity for transparency of the participating countries and strengthening the network of Asian countries.

In total, 144 participants (including online) attended WGIA22, including government and research representatives of 15 member countries (Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam), in addition to representatives of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC TFI), the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), and others.
