Environmental Research Hub
The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) Environmental Research Hub (ERHu) is a collaborative platform designed to promote linkages between research and society based on environmental data.
ERHu provides advanced IT infrastructure for the secure collection and management of increasingly diverse and large-scale environmental, economic, and social data, as well as computing and analytical environments that support data-driven research, including AI-based studies. Through these capabilities, ERHu promotes data sharing and collaborative research among research institutions, local governments, and industry partners across Japan. Building on NIES’s extensive accumulation of environmental data, ERHu serves as a hub for collaboration across disciplines and organizational boundaries. In addition, by utilizing cross-disciplinary search functions, visualization and analysis support tools, and AI technologies, ERHu provides an environment in which a wide range of users, including researchers, policymakers, businesses, and the public, can efficiently access necessary information and research findings. Through ERHu, NIES aims to consistently support the entire process from accelerating and advancing research to delivering research outcomes to society, thereby contributing to policymaking, business activities, environmental education, and positive behavioral change among citizens.
