Simulated Global Soil NOx emissions using VISIT model

This dataset provides global soil NOx emissions and ecosystem NOx emissions (NOx emissions from ecosystems considering attenuation in the plant canopy) from 1850 to 2020, calculated using the biogeochemical model VISIT based on the Nitrogen Model Intercomparison Project Phase 2 (NMIP2) protocol, in NetCDF format grid data. Each dataset contains monthly NOx emission calculations, with emissions estimated separately for natural ecosystems and agricultural ecosystems at each grid cell (spatial resolution is 0.5 degree).

Calculation method
Global soil NOx emissions were simulated using the VISIT terrestrial biogeochemical model (0.5° resolution) following the NMIP2 protocol for 1850–2020. The model incorporated climate forcing (CRU-JRA v2.2), land-use change (LUH2), atmospheric CO2, nitrogen deposition (CCMI), and anthropogenic nitrogen inputs from the HaNi dataset (fertilizer and manure). Soil NO emissions from nitrification and denitrification were calculated using the Parton et al. (2001) scheme, coupled with canopy reduction factors to estimate above-canopy fluxes.
