Notes

The dynamics of abundance in Filinia terminalis and F. hofmanni were characterized by alternations of population explosions and periods with permanently low abundance corresponding to gradations known from forest insects. F. terminalis showed growth phases in the epilimnion in April each year. During May the population left the epilimnion. In contrast, high abundance of F. hofmanni was only observed in the lower hypolimnion. With the exception of an overlapping in spring 1972, the populations were temporally or spatially separated during periods of population growth.
