The species richness and structure of the ciliate fauna was studied in three Eifel maar lakes of different trophic state. Altogether 96 taxonomic units of plankton, aufwuchs and as epibionts were identified. Comparisions between the three lakes indicate that trophic state influences the species richness and composition of ciliate communities. Three ciliate species from plankton and aufwuchs are discribed in detail.
