Notes

The scanning electron microscope has been used to reveal the differentiated surface structure of a number of ciliated protozoa. The matter of redefinition for several organelle systems is discussed in view of the complexity of their differentiated states. Among those ciliates examined are included the genera Coleps, Dileptus, Didinium, Colpoda, Tetrahymena, Paramecium, Frontonia, Lembadion, Conchophthirus, Nyctotherus, Condylostoma, Blepharisma, Stentor, Euplotes and Uronychia.
