Notes

The bacterium Aerobacter aerogenes is grown at 37 degrees C, harvested by centrifugation, and stored in a separatory funnel in a concentrated suspension at 4 degrees C. Aliquots of the bacterial medium are fed to cultures of paramecia which are maintained at 31 degrees C. Portions of the paramecia solutions, in turn, are fed to rotifer populations at room temperature. The entire culture scheme is sustained by employing aseptic procedures.
