Data have been gathered on the protozoan population of steppe soils which make it possible to fill gaps in our information concerning the succession of zonal soils in Eurasia. Analysis of the identified succession of zonal protozoan communities has made it possible to link the protozoan population with geographical characteristics of the soil cover from north to south.
