Notes
The effects of a short-term acidification on the density and diversity of testate Amoebae (Protozoa: Rhizopoda, Testacea) were investigated in seminatural conditions using a experimental set-up simulating a lotic ecosystem. Decreases in density were observed during sulfuric and nitric acid treatments (highly significant differences in the acidified channels compared with the nonacidified control channel). Diversity fluctuates with regard to variations in its two components, evenness and number of species. The response is qualitatively different (specific richness) but quantitatively nonsignificant (density), depending to the type of acid used.
