Notes

Tintinnids exhibit a bimodal peak of abundance in Narragansett Bay, with a minimum in late spring and a lesser peak in late summer-early autumn, depending on location. Thirty-three species in eight genera were identified, with the fauna dominated by the genus Tintinnopsis. Tintinnid abundance was not obviously correlated with salinity, temperature, or nanoplankton chlorophyll concentration. Patterns of change in seasonal abunndance can serve as a framework for posing additional questions of the role tintinnids play in marine food webs.
