In the course of an extensive taxonomical treatment of Oligochaetes collected from Lake Constance the immature specimens of all species were identified, mainly by setal characters. The method is presented, several hints are given and some characters of additional taxonomic value are described in a comparative way. The large extent to which evaluation of species distribution may be misleading if based only on the mature specimens is demonstrated.
