Taxonomic relationships were determined by comparing isozyme frequencies in 7 strains of Amoeba proteus, the only known strain of Amoeba indica and the 2 reciprocal hybrids produced by nuclear transfer between A. proteus and A. indica. Although there was considerable heterogeneity between these 10 strains, the data indicate that all these strains belong to the proteus species and that A. indica is not a taxonomically valid name.
