Notes

Thirty-five taxa of testate amoebae were found in 39 aquatic samples from the Truelove and Sparbo Hardy Lowlands on Devon Island. Centropyxis aerophila, Paraquadrula penardi and Paraquadrula irregularis are the most frequent observed taxa. The occurrence of these latter taxa is indicative for the rather alkaline status of the studied waterbodies. They characterize thus the alkaline and more mesotrophic habitats. In oligotrophic, but still alkaline to slightly alkaline conditions, Trinema lineare or a Centropxis aerophila assemblage is encoutered. A relationship between some assemblages and the age of the waterbodies, developed from the postglacial uplift, is suggested.
