As the result of an ultrastructural study of amoeboid and encysted stages, Stachyamoeba lipophora Page, 1975, originally classified in the family Echninamoebidae, is transferred to the class Heterolobosea as a member of the family Gruberellidae. Minor changes are proposed in the diagnosis of the class Heterolobosea.
