Notes

Worms with their posterior half amputated regenerate more rapidly if their prostomium and first anterior segment were simultaneously cut away. The stimulation of the posterior regeneration is still present, but decreases in intensity if the cut anterior part makes up not 1, but 4 or 7 segments. These results suggest an inhibiting effect of the brain and a stimulating effect of the anterior nervous ganglions on the posterior regeneration.
