In Metacystis, the micronucleus has its own inner membrane as the macronucleus does also but they both reside in an atypical perinuclear space which is limited by the same outer nuclear membrane. The perinuclear space is more restricted in Platyophryina. The perinuclear "compartmentization" is independent of the acquisition of the macronucleus polyploidy.
