Between 1996 and 1998 samples were taken from Rio Paraguay and some shallow pools in the wetlands near the town of Corumba in order to investigate the presence of rotifers 216 species were found: 202 Monogononta and 14 Dignonta (Bdelloidae). Further types, e.g. belonging to the genus Cephalodella or to the Bdelloidae could not be identified to species level, since determination was hindered by preserving artifacts. Out of 216 rotifers, 78 monogonont and 12 digonont species are listed for the region for the first time. Some species are presented with figures alongside with remarks regarding their taxonomy, ecology and biogeography.
