Notes

A new monotypic genus, Apolimia gen. n., including A. rotundistoma sp. n. from the upper soil layer of Apolima Island is described. It is characterized by the shell of a rather large size and regularly-oval shape; shell plates are round, oval, and elongated; the pseudostom is circular, terminal, with a row of more regularly arranged, round oral plates. The shell is opaque, grey, and smooth: any horns, keel, pores, and pseudostomal morphological structures (<< colar >>, << neck >>) are absent. The round cross-section of the shell is the most conspicious character of the new genus. The genus can be distinguished from the most closely related genus Nebela by the last character as well as by the lack of the neck. The pseudopodia, cytoplasma, and cysts were not observed. The analysis of the present taxonomical status of the family Hyalospheniidae is given.
