A sequence in decreasing saprobity was established for 32 taxa of the genus Vorticella (Protozoa, Ciliata), each taxon being classified both by saprobic valency and by saprobic index. The individual saproforms were drawn and the preference from the ecological point of view to the taxonomical was stressed. All the Vorticella species found in Czechoslovakia and recorded in Germany, Hungary and Great Britain were listed, as far as they were saprobiologically classified.
