Notes

Introductory, the film deals with the morphology and food intake of Eufolliculina spec. and Metafolliculina andrewsi. The unequal cell-division is demonstrated on a single animal of Eufolliculina, living in its case. The conspicuously pigmented, cortical stripe pattern allowed a detailed study of the completion of morphogenesis. The film facilitates interesting insights into the dynamics of these complicated processes. In the begin of cell-division, the parental peristome-apparatus is resorbed. Than, two differently formed separate peristome-anlagen develop. There is a distinct migration of pigment into the anterior part of the cell. At the same time the macronucleus condenses to a single mass and divides again into a segmented chain. After completion of cell-division the anterior daughter leaves the parental case as a wormlike swarmer.
