Notes

1. Some localities in the lowland regions are realizing the particular environmental conditions of some rare species up to now considered constricted to the alpine regions. The crucial factor is probably the constant purification of the milieu by pure, flouring water. 2. The few Dutch localities realizing the necessary conditions produced the alpine species: Clypeolina marginata, Amphitrema lemanense, Nadinella tenella, Artodiscus saltans, Acanthocystis rubella, Pinacophora fluviatilis. 3. Among the characteristic components associated with the alpine species were several species of the Genera Pamphagus, Plagiophrys, Cochliopodium and Pseudodifflugia. 4. Of more common species further information is given about their feeding (Nuclearia delicatula), constitution (Elaeorhanis cincta), construction of the shell (Pareuglypha reticulata). 5. In accordance with the suggestion already given by Cash and Hopkinson (1915) the species Heterophrys myriopoda Archer has to be considered identical with Nuclearia delicatula.
