Notes

Light dependent chlorophyll bleaching and ethane formation in Euglena gracilis cells at slightly acidic pH values above 5.2 are enhanced by DCMU and other photosystem II blockers. Excited chlorophyll under conditions of limited energy dissipation seems to be the oxidant for w-3 unsaturated fatty acids, yielding ethane and other (ethylene, "malondialdehyde") oxidation products, cooxidizing chlorophyll.
