Voronkowia

Voronkowia Fadeew

ref. ID; 1923

Animal solitary, not forming definite colonies. Foot ends in tuft of cilia. A speculation by F.J. Myers that Voronkowia is really the free-swimming larva of Octotrocha speciosa has been quoted in the literature (Wulfert 1939; Donner 1949). This identity is made unlikely by the difference in trophi and the fact that Fadeew's figure shows an egg maturing. Likewise, it is probably not a larval Sinantherina (Voigt, 1957). Solitary, free-swimming larvae of Flosculariidae will key out here, but in general they may be distinguished by the relatively much larger size of the mastax, as compared to the body width. Bogoslowski (1958) has presented evidence that Voronkowia is the larva that hatches from the resting egg, Sinantherina socilais. (ref. ID; 1923)
