Schizocerca

Schizocerca Daday, 1883

ref. ID; 3114

Formerly, Brachionus diversicornis was treated as a monotype species under the different genus Schizocerca. But Rousselet, and Ahlstrom already pointed out that a special character in the toes is certainly insufficient to justify the separation of this species. According to Wesenberg-Lund (1923) and Sudzuki (1955) both Brachionus and Schizocerca are closely related in the structure of the males too. But, the structure of the toe, especially claws in nevertheless peculiar and the difference from the usual Brachionus being qualitative. Thus, we should again use a generic name Schizocerca for diversicornis. (ref. ID; 3114)
