Scepanotrocha rubra Bryce, 1910 (ref. ID; 1345, 1923, 2280, 3136, 3688)

Descriptions

7-8 teeth on each ramus. (ref. ID; 2280)

Measurements

Length over all 212 um. (ref. ID; 2280)

Scepanotrocha setifera Haigh, 1963 (ref. ID; 2271 original paper) reported year? (ref. ID; 2646)

Descriptions

Small, colourless, hyaline. Moves rapidly, feeds sparingly but then very steadily. Lamella with shallow wide notch, rostrum fairly stout. Light longitudinal folds, spurs small, slightly cut-out on inner side near the point, no interspace. Food pellets small. The upper lip is in two lobes with a conical thickening, the rounded apex of which lies between and just in front of the two lobes. These are only slightly curved on their anterior edges and completely cover the discs. From a notch in each side protrude about ten long stiff immobile setae. The cilia of the trochal discs are also rather long, showing well above the shield-like upper lip. Dental formula 8/8; no teeth very strong but the first two rather stronger than the remainder. Dorsal antenna is half neck width. (ref. ID; 2271)

Measurements

Length of creeping animal 136; length of feeding animal 74; length between the anterior edge of the discs and the mastax 44; upper lip corners 21; width across the head 16; setae 10; head width over all 40; food pellets 5; length of spurs 4.5; width trunk 33; animal contracted 44x33; length of unci 13 µm. (ref. ID; 2271)

Scepanotrocha simplex de Koning, 1947 (ref. ID; 1345, 2275, 2606, 2646, 3136) reported year? (ref. ID; 2609)

Comments

Several species of this genus, e.g. Sc. corniculata, have a two-part clinging disc instead to three toes. Now this disc with its two toe-like parts has been seen in Sc. simplex. In all other respects the animal was similar to the many others with three toes which have been seen. (ref. ID; 2275)
