Diagnosis

This species can easily be mistaken for a form of Dipeuchlanis by the three-jointed foot and characteristic toes. However, it differs from the above by the broad dorsal plate with semicircular plate at anterior margin, mastax with six teeth, absence of ventral plate and lateral sulci. It resembles other members of the genus Euchlanis by the nature of the corona, dorsal salivary glands near the mastax foot glands with accessory glands but differs by the dorsal plate anteriorly with hood-like expansion, and posteriorly without a notch and mastax with six teeth. Myers (1930) stated that shape of the anterior margin of the dorsal and ventral plates is of little value, in Euchlanis. But the characteristic subsquare notch present at the anterior margin of dorsal plate in euchlanids is absent in this species. Further, the small semicircular, non-retractable shield at the anterior margin of the dorsal plate in this species is qualitative and nearly resembles that of squatinellids. Thus the present genus while combining the generic characters of Euchlanis, Dipeuchlanis and Squatinella; has a closer affinity to the genus Euchlanis and hence the new generic name Pseudoeuchlanis is proposed. The specific name refers to the structure of foot and toes. (ref. ID; 1930)

Descriptions

Body ovoid, truncate in front and rounded behind. Dorsal plate with anterior margin raised in the middle into a small non-retractible semicircular plate, without a notch at the posterior margin and seen as arc of a circle in cross section. Venter is membranous, anteriorly somewhat excavate and its posterior portion stiffened. Lateral sulci are absent. Corona is of family type, triangular with circumapical band. Dorsal antenna small. Foot is slender and three jointed. No setae are found at the distal end of the penultimate foot joint. Toes are characteristic, broad at the base, cylindrical, long, very slender, enlarged slightly above the tips and curved outwards. They are about three-fourths the length of dorsal plate. Mastax modified malleate type. Tips of rami drawn out into slender rods without denticulate combs on the inner side. Each uncus has six slender club-shaped teeth and two accessory. Stomach is constricted at the point of junction with the intestine. Dorsal salivary glands present near the anterior end of mastax. Gastric glands prominent; foot glands normal with accessory glands. Measurements

Total length of the body 210; length of the dorsal plate 112; width of dorsal plate 84; length of toes 84 µm. (ref. ID; 1930)
