Descriptions

Integument relatively soft therefore with many folds on the dorsal part. The ventral side slight. Anterior margin situated dorsally with a narrow sinus, the ventral margin has a broader sinus. Wide foot groove, on the posterior margin of the lorica. Lorica bend in the last third. Toes thin, curved outwards. (ref. ID; 4606)

Type locality

Three individuals from King Parrot Creek. (ref. ID; 4606)

Measurements

Lorica length 95; lorica width 55; toe 18; foot groove length 32 µm. (ref. ID; 4606)

Lophocharis hutchinsoni Edmondson, 1935 (ref. ID; 1345, 2628, 2760 original paper)

Descriptions

The lorica of this species is ovoid in lateral view, truncately pear-shaped in ventral view, and nearly circular in cross section. There is no dorsal keel; in its place is a very slight thickening of the cuticle which originates at a point posterior to the foot opening. This ridge divides anteriorly before it would meet the dorsal sinus, each branch running parallel to the edge of the sinus for a short distance. There are two lateral markings which originate at the posterior termination of the dorsal ridge and run forward in a gentle sigmoid curve to well past mid-length. The dorsal anterior sinus is very broad and shallow; the ventral sinus is about twice as deep as the dorsal one. The edges of the head opening are bent in, making a definite angle. It is along this that the branches of the dorsal ridge go. Each of these branches is prolonged by a row of minute spines which runs down the ventral side of the head opening and disappears near the end of the ventral sinus. The lorica is minutely reticulate. The foot opening is roughly triangular, with broadly rounded sides and angles. The broadest part is posterior. The length is slightly less than the width, and about a fifth of the length of the lorica. The foot and toes are normal. Internally there is a large U-shaped ovary, large club-shaped gastric glands, and a large, red cervical eye. (ref. ID; 2760)

Measurements

Length of lorica 160; maximum width of lorica 112; maximum depth of lorica 112; length of foot opening 32; width of foot opening 36; length of toe 28 µm. (ref. ID; 2760)

Descriptions

With the exception that the specimens are smaller, and that there is a stippled girdle on the ventral surface joining the widest lateral points, the specimens examined are typical. (ref. ID; 3521)

Measurements

Length of body 84, maximum width 55; length of foot 26; length of toes 30 µm. (ref. ID; 3521)

Descriptions

It is closely related to L. oxysternon. Harring (1916) suggests the following distinctive features: Shape of anterior margin, transverse folds on the dorsal keel and transverse groove in front of the foot opening. (ref. ID; 1837)

Lorica rigid, of very irregularly prismatic form and rhomboid in cross-section. A prominent dorsal keel present, beginning at the anterior sinus and continuing the posterior end of the lorica. Anterior margin angulate with distinct dorsal and ventral sinuses, the truncate portion being coarsely denticulate. No transverse groove on the ventral plate. (ref. ID; 3180)
