Lorica composed of two convex plates (a dorsal and a ventral) fused laterally. Corona with one to three finger-like processes in addition to ciliated papillae. Mastax virgate. Trophi symmetrical. (ref. ID; 1663)

Carlin (1943) proposed to unite and place in Ascomorpha. (ref. ID; 1923)

Carlin (1939, p.68, 1943, s.33-34) insisted that C. testudo is synonymous with C. ovalis, and further he placed it in the old and well known genus Ascomorpha. On this point, Sudzuki quite agrees with Carlin, because the size of both loricae is highly changeable owing to the growth of the animals. (ref. ID; 3114)
