Descriptions

Only a limited number of ultrastructural details were visible in specimens of this species, owing to consistently poor fixation with the standard fixative procedure. The acrosome is short. The acrosome tube is helical and composed of a wall of uneven thickness. The acrosome vesicule ends posteriorly in a slightly thickened ring subterminal to the tube. The basal invagination passes through the ring and extends into the anterior portion of the vesicle to form the subacrosomal space. An acrosome rod is present in the basal subacrosomal space, passing through the ring and ending parallel to the tube. The nucleus continues the helical shape of the acrosome with slight depression in both anterior and posterior ends. The midpiece is long and slightly penetrated by the central apparatus of the axoneme. The tail has an axoneme with a prominent central sheath. The anterior portion (about 4 um long) of the flagellum has no helical fiber, and after this the thin helical fiber begins and progresses along the tail. An end piece is present. (ref. ID; 6466)
