Remarks

This species was first described by Yamaguchi (1953) as Peloscolex sp., and named Peloscolex yamaguchii by Brinkhurst (1971), then redescribed under the genus Embolocephalus by Ohtaka (1994) with designation of the neotype among newly collected specimens from Lake Biwa. E. yamaguchii is distinguished from the congeners by having white and less papillate swelling bands on the body wall in preclitellar segments, simple pointed ventral chaetae of II through VI-VIII, and asymmetrical and independent spermathecal chaetal sacs together with spermathecal chaetae.
