Remarks

A. beddardi Michaelsen, 1900 differs from Aelosoma niveum Leydig, 1865 in that the characteristic orange oil droplets are missing; it may well be synonymous with the latter. (ref. ID; 1257)

Aeolosoma headleyi Beddard, 1888 (ref. ID; 1663, 1923, 3692) reported year? (ref. ID; 1928, 7502), Aelosoma headleyi Beddard, 1888 (ref. ID; 1257)

Descriptions

Setae bundles composed of long, flexible hair setae and short, stiff sigmoid setae. Sigmoid setae only in V and posteriorly. Epidermal glands greenish yellow to olive green. (ref. ID; 1663)

Without crotchet setae in the first 3 setigerous segments; crotchet setae of the following segments bifid; oil globules yellow. (ref. ID; 1923)

A. tenebrarum differs from all other species of the genus in possessing sigmoid-shaped setae in the posterior segments of the body, in addition to the hair setae present in those segments and elsewhere: the setae are stated by Vejdovsky to be bifid at the free extremity, but I have not been able to see this in my specimens; in Vejdovsky's specimens the epidermic coloured cells are of a pale yellow, contrasting therefore with the specimens studied by myself, which I an unwilling however, to refer to a new species since they agree in all other particulars with A. tenebrarum. Comments

This worm has been described by Vejdovsky ('Thierische Organismen der Brunnenwasser von Prag' (Prag 1882), p.6, and also 'System und Morphologie der Oligochaeten' (Prag 1884), p.21)' as new, but it may possibly be identical with Nais aurigena of Eichwald ("Erster Nachtrag zur Infusorieukunde Russlands," Bull. Soc. Imp. Nat. Moscou, t. xx. 1847, p.359). (ref. ID; 6409)

Aeolosoma variegatum Vejdovsky, 1884 (ref. ID; 1663, 1923, 3692) reported year? (ref. ID; 1928, 3446) or Vejdowsky (ref. ID; 6676), Aelosoma variegatum Vejdovsky, 1884 (ref. ID; 1257)
