This monotypic genus is closely related to the genus Desmoscolex. It is distinguished from it by the triradial head end and by main rings with a transverse row of large spine-like structures surrounded by concretion. Spinodesmoscolex is for the time being considered as a genus different from Desmoscolex. (ref. ID; 878)
