Pleurotylenchus

Pleurotylenchus Szczygiel, 1969 (ref. ID; 5966, 7246)

Family Atylenchidae (ref. ID; 5966)
  1. Pleurotylenchus minor Ebsary, 1986 (ref. ID; 7246 original paper)
  2. Pleurotylenchus sachsi (Hirshmann, 1952) Szczygiel, 1969 (ref. ID; 7246)

Pleurotylenchus minor Ebsary, 1986 (ref. ID; 7246 original paper)

Differential diagnosis

Pleurotylenchus minor n. sp. differs from P. sachsi by being shorter (444-528 µm versus 660-900 µm), by having a more posterior vulva (67-69% versus 61-64%), a smaller a value (28 versus 38-43), greater c value (8.5-11 versus 7.2-7.9), smaller c' value (5.6-6.8 versus 11.5-12.3), shorter stylet (14-15 µm versus 17-18 µm), a continuous head with lateral incisure (head set off without incisure in P. sachsi), and by the lateral body incisures which being on the first body annule (incisures begin on annules 5 or 6 in P. sachsi). The male differs by the shorter tail (51 µm versus 81-93 µm), smaller a value (27 versus 47-54) and by the presence of two preanal groups of raised cuticle versus 5-6 such groups in P. sachsi). (ref. ID; 7246)

Descriptions

  • Female: Female body in an open spiral. Head 8 µm wide with four head annules, continuous with body. Annules on head laterally indented. Head framework moderately developed. Amphids not observed. Stylet 14-15 µm long, conus 6 µm. Stylet knobs rounded, 3-3.5 µm across. Lateral incisures, 2, crenate, beginning on first body annule. Cuticle with 10 ridges of well-developed angular blocks including the lateral field. Median bulb weakly valvate 9 µm long by 6 µm wide. Isthmus 22-25 µm long. Basal bulb cylindrical, 15-20 µm long and 6 µm wide, apposed to intestine. Cardia rounded. Ovary prodelphic, not reflexed. Spermatheca 14-15 µm by 9 µm, offset, filled with 2 µm round sperm. Vulva with a ventral vulval flap giving vagina a sigmoid appearance. Lateral vulval flaps lacking. Vagina weakly developed. Post-vulval sac well developed, 9 µm long. Ventral and dorsal ridges of cuticular blocks ending near anus, others terminating near middle of tail, rest of tail annulated. Tail 49-53 µm long, elongate conical, terminus pointed. (ref. ID; 7246)
  • Male: Similar to female. Spicules cephalated, 19 µm long. Gubernaculum 6 µm long, curvilinear with a distal hook. Two ventral groups of noninervated raised cuticle present anterior to cloaca. Each group consists of 4 annules. (ref. ID; 7246)
