Desmotimmia

Desmotimmia Freudenhammer, 1975 (ref. ID; 878)

ref. ID; 878

Body with tricomoid main rings except anteriorly and in tail region where they are quadricomoid. Head consists of three consecutively broader rings, differentiated from the main rings by a narrow interzone annule. Each head ring consists of an anterior non-sclerotized (cf. interzone) and a posterior sclerotized part. Labial region with hexaradial symmetry consisting or 6 lips and only four labial setae (2 lateral, a right sub-dorsal and a left sub-ventral seta). Arrangement of somatic setae tricomoid. Pharynx cylindrical. Female genital system didelphic-amphidelphic with two spermathecae. The annulated head, with rings having the possibility to telescope into each other, represents an autapomorphic character, giving support to Desmotimmia as monophyletic group, as well as the presence of only four labial setae. The structure of the main rings and the shape of the endring in Desmotimmia indicate its close relationship with Tricoma (anterior and posterior main rings quadricomoid, remaining rings rounded) and Quadricoma (endring with a short or long spine-like spinneret, rare in Tricoma-species).
