Actinophrys Ehrenberg, 1830

[ref. ID; 1618]
Spheroidal; cytoplasm highly vacuolated, especially ectoplasm; with often symbiotic zoochlorellae; one to many contractile vacuoles; axopodia straight, numerous, axial filaments terminate at surface of the nucleus; "sun animalcules"; fresh water. (ref. ID; 1618)

[ref. ID; 1923]
No central corpuscle. Central nucleus from which the axial filaments arise. Nucleus single. (ref. ID; 1923)

Description; Spherical; ectoplasm vacuolated; endoplasm granulated with numerous small vacuoles; a large central nucleus; solitary but may be colonial when young; among plants in still fresh water. (ref. ID; 1618)
Body spherical with protoplasm highly vacuolated. Usually 1 contractile vacuole which rises and pushes out the surface as a rounded globule before bursting. Pseudopodia extending from all parts of the body, with axial filaments arising from the membrane of the single nucleus. Habitat pond water among aquatic plants; very common. (ref. ID; 1923)
Measurements; Diameter variable, average being 40-50 um. (ref. ID; 1618)

Description; Ectoplasm with saccate secondary vesicles, extending out of body surface between axopodia; nucleus central, with many endosomes; fresh water. (ref. ID; 1618)
