Rhodomonas Karsten (ref. ID; 1618)

[ref. ID; 1618]
Furrow granulated; chromatophore one, red (upon degeneration the coloring matter becomes dissolved in water); pyrenoid central; fresh water. (ref. ID; 1618)
  1. Rhodomonas baltica Karsten (ref. ID; 3494)
  2. Rhodomonas lacustris Pascher & Rutter (ref. ID; 3494)

Rhodomonas baltica Karsten (ref. ID; 3494)

Descriptions

Bodies are flattened dorso-ventrally and elongated ovate. Two flagella as long as body arise at the depression the end of the pharyngeal groove. Two chromatophores different in length are brown. In the cell are observed a small contractile vacuole at the base of flagella, a comparatively large pyrenoid at the center, two rows of refractive trichocysts along the ventral gullet and starch grains. (ref. ID; 3494)

Measurements

Length, 15-22 um; breadth 7-10 um. (ref. ID; 3494)

Rhodomonas lacustris Pascher & Rutter (ref. ID; 3494)

Descriptions

The form differs from the other, R. baltica Karsten, in fusiform shape and having a single chromatophore, a large contractile vacuole and a small pyrenoid. (ref. ID; 3494)

Measurements

Length 15-18 um. (ref. ID; 3494)

Rhodomonas lens Pascher & Ruttner (ref. ID; 1618)

Descriptions

Spindle-form. (ref. ID; 1618)

Measurements

About 16 um long. (ref. ID; 1618)

Rhodomonas ovalis Nygaard (ref. ID; 3497)

Comments

This species having two chromatophores is distinguished from the similar form R. baltica Karsten. (ref. ID; 3497)

Measurements

The small form as long as 5-15 um and as broad as 4-7 um. (ref. ID; 3497)
