Descriptions

The theca consists of 2 major plates and 7 smaller plates arranged to form 2 pores through which the 2 flagella emerge separately. (ref. ID; 3731)

The complex flagellar apparatus as seen in SEM and TEM. (ref. ID; 7678)

Geographic origin

Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. (ref. ID; 7121)

Prorocentrum minimum (Pavillard) Schiller (ref. ID; 7121) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 4087)

Descriptions

Marine dinoflagellate. The shape of interphase cells of Prorocentrum minimum is generally ovoid and somewhat laterally flattened. Two large thecal plates, covered with numerous spines, fit together at the suture and define the characteristic shape of the species. An additional group of small plate lies in the junction of the two main plates at the apex of the cell. These form the two pores through which the flagella emerge. Toward the posterior end of the cell lies the large conspicuous nucleus with its characteristically condensed, banded chromosomes. Anterior to the nucleus lies a sphere of Golgi lamellae and vesicles. (ref. ID; 4087)
Free-living. GenBank accession number AY421791. (ref. ID; 7121)

Geographic origin

Coastal waters, Korea. (ref. ID; 7121)
