Multicilia

Multicilia Cienkowski, 1881 (ref. ID; 4656) reported year? (ref. ID; 1618)

[ref. ID; 1618]
Generally spheroidal, but amoeboid; with forty to fifty flagella, long and evenly distributed; one or more nuclei; holozoic; food obtained by means of pseudopodia; multiplication by fission; fresh or salt water. (ref. ID; 1618)

[ref. ID; 5694]
Circumscription; Heterotrophic flagellates, small to medium, with irregular or regular rounded body with up to 30 flagella arising randomly over the surface. Heterotrophic, eating other protists. (ref. ID; 5694)
Ultrastructural identity; Mitochondria with flat cristae. Each flagellum linked to a single basal body, basal body gives rise indirectly to an incomplete cone of microtubules and also ribbons of microtubules may link adjacent basal bodies. Fibrous cytoskeletal structures are also located adjacent to basal body. Multiple dictyosomes. (ref. ID; 5694)
Synapomorphy; Platycristate flagellates with flagellar basal bodies anchored by an incomplete cone of microtubules. (ref. ID; 5694)
Composition; Several species, Polymastix and Tetracilia are accepted as synonyms. (ref. ID; 5694)
References; Mikrjukov and Mylnikov 1998. (ref. ID; 5694)
