Monosiga
Monosiga Kent, 1880 (ref. ID; 4921) reported year? (ref. ID; 1618)
[ref. ID; 1618]
Solitary; with or without stalk; occasionally with short pseudopodia; attached to freshwater plants. (ref. ID; 1618)
- Monosiga fusiformis Kent (ref. ID; 3497)
- Monosiga longitenax Hada, 1968 (ref. ID; 3497)
- Monosiga ovata Kent, 1880 (ref. ID; 4921) reported year? (ref. ID; 1618, 1796, 3517) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 3321)
- Monosiga robusta Stokes (ref. ID; 1618)
- Monosiga varians Skuja, 1948 (ref. ID; 4921)
Descriptions
The fusiform body has a flagellum twice as long as it, and a funnel-shaped protoplasmic collar as high as body. Protoplasmic currents are apparently observed in the membrane of the collar. There are a nucleus in the center and a fewer flexible grobules in the posterior part of the body. (ref. ID; 3497)
Measurements
Length 6-13 um; breadth 3-6 um; height of the collar 5-10 um; oral diameter of a collar 5-9 um. (ref. ID; 3497)
Descriptions
The body having a long stick consists of an ovate main body and a low protoplasmic collar. The flagellum is long, being 3-4 times as long as a body, of which a surface is rather rough due to attachment of granular particles. (ref. ID; 3497)
Comments
The new species is different from the published ones of the genus Monosiga in having a low collar and a roughened surface. (ref. ID; 3497)
Type locality
The new form attaching to plankton algae was detected from coastal water of a salinity of 32.5 0/00 taken in Hiroshima Bay on December 15, 1967. (ref. ID; 3497)
Measurements
Length 6-7 um; height of collar 2.0-2.5 um; length of a stick 18-40 um. (ref. ID; 3497)
Monosiga ovata Kent, 1880 (ref. ID; 4921) reported year? (ref. ID; 1618, 1796, 3517) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 3321)
Descriptions
With a short stalk. (ref. ID; 1618)
Measurements
5-15 um long. (ref. ID; 1618)
Cell volume 24+/-9.5 um3, collar length 7.0+/-1.0 um. (ref. ID; 3321)
Descriptions
Stalk very long. (ref. ID; 1618)
Measurements
13 um long. (ref. ID; 1618)
